Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
I know it has been a few months since my last email but we have been in our busy season, which runs from January 1 st until after Easter. Yes, contrary to all the gloom and doom you see and read in the news about the economy, 2009 has started out better than I predicted. I am happy to see many people are still traveling.
What we have noticed is the booking window has shortened drastically; meaning people are waiting to book until the last minute. And yes, suppliers are being aggressive in their pricing but as I have told many clients, they might be aggressive but they are also not giving away the store. I still see 2009 shaping up as one of the best years for getting a great value.
So much like my CPA will be doing in about a week after the April 15 th tax season is over, I will also be taking a small break and heading back to Mexico for some R&R and hotel inspections. Once I return, it will be back into the swing of things booking summer vacations for my clients.
Which prompted my concern that many people do not realize that with the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, passports will be required starting June 1, 2009 not only for air travel outside the US but also cruises and land border crossings. So I encourage everyone to get their passports sooner than later for I fear there will be another backlog like we saw a couple of years ago.
Passports will be required even for infants so if you are planning to do any travel outside of the US this year, please start early and get your passports now. Here is a link for more information.

I encourage everyone to take a break from all of the stress at least once this year. I surely am!
Wishing you and your family safe journeys.
Respectfully,
