The following is David's professional opinion from a recent hotel inspection.
Ambiance-Wow, for people who want a small secluded all-inclusive resort, this is a great choice. Don't let the mile drive through the tropical mangroves to get to the resort scare you, once you get here it is like a small little paradise in the jungle and on one of the best beaches in the Riviera Maya. Don't expect a lot of activities here, this is where you go if you want to get away from it all. It only has 72 rooms in the whole resort.
 Beach- Maroma beach is known as one of the best beaches in this region. And those that want activities, you are right next to Maroma Marina which offers deep sea fishing, snorkeling and lots of other water sports.
Charges (extra) - Spa treatments would be extra.
Distances- In the Riviera Maya about 15 minutes from Playa del Carmen.
Entertainment on Property -You are not going to find all the hype and buzz on the property and that is just the way they like it. Who needs entertainment when you can be relaxing in your infinity pool suite!
Fitness Area - A small fitness area for you die hard's who have to get that work out in. My preference was taking an hour long walk each way on the beach. I can run on the treadmill at home.
 Food- The El Dorado Resorts want to be a step better than most all-inclusive's. The food here is much better than most. The japanese restaurant was very good and I enjoyed the Italian restaurant too. They also have a very nice Mexican restaurant. No reservations are required.
Getting Around- Taxi or car rental. I would avoid renting a car unless you have driven in Mexico before.
Internet Access -There is an hourly charge for internet access from the PCs in the lobby. There is no Wi-Fi access from the rooms or common areas. The goal is to get away from it all and that is what they strive for here.
Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but for the men bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner in the A la Carte restaurants.
 Kids- can you say NO!
Little Known fact- Rick's Bar was named after a travel professional from Texas who recently passed away. Rick was a pioneer in helping bring attention and support to tourism in the Riviera Maya.
Medical Services-On call medical services.
Negatives- Well if you want to bring the little ones this resort will not not be the best choice. Also, if you want a large resort this might be too small and boutique for you.
Nightlife- This is a very relaxed intimate atmosphere so if you want nightlife Playa del Carmen is a short taxi ride from the resort.
 Opportunities-If you can take advantage of the brand new infinity pool jacuzzi suites they are wonderful. The swim up jacuzzi suites are also excellent.
Pool-They now have two pools, one has a swim up bar and the other new pool allows you to swim up right to your room if you have one of the swim up jacuzzi suites.
Protection-In room safe.
Recreation-Non-motorized water sports: paddle boats, kayak and snorkeling gear at the Marina located by the beach.
Rooms- This is the first resort I am aware of in Mexico to introduce the infinity pool jacuzzi suites. Swim up suites on the first floor is nothing new, these suites are on the second floor. Right outside your balcony there is a private small infinity pool that I have to say is just about perfect. They also have the new swim up jacuzzi suites, junior jacuzzi suites and the original section for their beachfront rooms with king bed. So which room do you think I would want to stay in?
 Shopping-Small gift shop on property with more shopping in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
Terrain-Very easy to get around this resort. Very small.
Updates-Just opened up with the new section in December of 2007. The original section was the Mi Hotelito.
View-For the Ocean View rooms, there is nothing between you and the beautiful blue ocean!
Weather-December through May are the driest months. September through November are the wettest months.
WOW Factor-The Canopy Beds, excellent dining and the Swim Up Jacuzzi and Infinity Suites are what makes this resort great for couples and honeymooners.
 X-Y-Z-If you want to not be around crowds and are content with a smaller class act, this is a good choice.

The specialty of El Dorado Maroma, a Beachfront Resort are water sports activities of all kind. From seep sea fishing to motor boating, parasailing, snorkeling, paddleboat's and kayaks, the facilities of Marina Maroma are just a few steps away. Scuba clinics and certification courses are also available. As is a tour desk which can arrange scuba diving and snorkeling excursions. Also, a variety of fun and adventure activities are available, including ATV's, horseback riding, power walks, dance classes and tons more. If you want to be active – you will be active.
And for the more romantically inclined, there’s plenty of relaxing and romantic things to do after or instead of a day of activities.
