Home > Hotel Marina El Cid Spa and Beach Resort
Ambiance-Though isolated this is like an all-inclusive oasis on the ocean. Once here you will have no need to leave the resort for they have enough to keep all age groups happy. This is also one of the few all-inclusive resorts that will allow a family of five in one room. It also boasts one of the very few multi bedroom all-inclusive's. It is also one of the few resorts that have rooms right off the beach.
Beach- A nice beach but having the marina right there takes away a little bit of the ambiance of a long stretch of beach. They have palapas for relaxing and even provide outdoor open air massages.
Charges (extra) - Spa treatments, long distance and business services like internet access would be extra.
Distances- In Puerto Morelos about half way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Figure a 20-25 minute ride from the airport so not bad at all.
Entertainment on Property -Oh my goodness this is like the Disneyland of all-inclusive resorts with all the activities. They also have dinner shows in the evening.
Fitness Area - They are very proud of their state of the art fitness center. Where else can get get a workout in right next to the ocean.
Food- They have four restaurants with three of them being specialty restaurants serving Mediterranean, Mexican and a seafood restaurant. They also have 24 hour room service.
Getting Around- Taxi is the best bet for I do not suggest you renting a car unless you really know what you are doing driving in Mexico.
Internet Access - They have wireless internet access in the common areas and convention center with a surcharge. Since I always have to work while there I wish more resorts would offer free wireless inside the room. I look like a geek with my laptop, portable printer and briefcase sitting in the lobby. I guess if I have to work, still not a shabby place to do it.
Jackets and Ties- Keep them at home, but for the men bring slacks and polo shirt for dinner. The Mediterranean restaurant was a bit more strict about the dress code.
Kids- This is where El Cid shines. They love families and kids and their kids club offers numerous activities for kids ages 4-12.
Little Known Fact- They are one of the few all-inclusive resorts that allow a family of five in one room and have multi bedroom units.
Medical Services-On call medical services.
Negatives- Having the private marina there is good for those who have boats but it takes a bit away of the visual for me of the beach and ocean.
Nightlife- They have entertainment at the resort in the evening and you are not that far from either Cancun or Playa del Carmen if you want to go there for their nightlife.
Opportunities- If you can get one of the oceanfront room categories the views are wonderful.
Pool- One of the largest pools I have seen at any of the resorts in the Riviera Maya. I also liked the Quiet Zone adults whirlpool.
Protection-In room safe at no extra charge.
Recreation- They have sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, aquatic bikes and daily free tennis clinics. With the marina right there you have access to boat trips and dive trips (extra cost).
Rooms- Very modern, bright and tropical. They also have 1-3 bedroom villas so great for larger families. Consider upgrading to Platinum status which gives you either ocean view or oceanfront views plus priority in dinner reservations.
Shopping-They have a small shop at the resort for incidentals and small gifts plus you have plenty of shopping in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
Spa- They have a new state of the art spa facility so even the spa experts should be satisfied.
Terrain- This is a fairly large resort but not so much that you feel you have to walk forever to get from point A to B.
Updates- Alhambra is their new International buffet.
View - The best views are the Oceanfront rooms where you are literally feet away from the beach.
Weather-Mid December through May has the best weather. September and October gets more rain.
WOW Factor - The abundance of activities for families and the 1-3 bedroom villas.
X-Y-Z- This is a perfect choice for families who need extra room and those that want a great offering of things to do at an all-inclusive resort.
