Haleakala Crater, the predominant physical feature of the island, is a dormant volcano the last erupted in 1790. At 10,000 feet, the crater is certainly the best place in the islands to catch the sunrise. If you go in the early morning, it's best to bring plenty of warm clothing. Even in the summer months the morning temperature is about 35 degrees. Haleakala National Park is a scenic recreation area. It's easiest to reach this scenic recreation area by driving the famous Hana Highway from Kahului. (This highway is one lane at some points and can make those honeymooners that get carsick very uncomfortable.) "Ohe'o Gulch (Seven Pools) are a fantastic picnic site. They are hewn out of solid rock by the descent of a fresh water stream into the ocean. You are welcome to swim and play in the pools (no lifeguard is on duty so be careful). |

Maui has something for all types of honeymooners. Maui has dozens of great beaches and hiking trails. It is a great place to go whale watching or sportfishing, Maui has sixteen 18-hole golf courses, and Ho'okipa Beach is arguably the world's best windsurfing venue. Plus, couples can enjoy a wide range of water sports such as scuba, snorkeling, rent jet skis, go kayaking, parasailing or surfing. |

Shopping on the island is widespread and varied. The shopping centers are too numerous to mention, but some of the interesting places for honeymooners to shop are: Whalers Village, 505 Front Street and Lahaina Center in West Maui; Kihei in South Maui; Ka'ahumanu Mall and Maui Market Place in Central Maui; and Makawao in the Upcountry. |

The average high summer temperature is 87°F while the average high winter temperature is 80°F. Nighttime temperatures drop 15 degrees. The ocean temperature is remarkably consistent 72-76 degrees all year long. The resort areas along the western coast have an annual rainfall of 10-20 inches but precipitation increases as you mover upcountry, or swing around to the windward side. |
