Sightseeing |
 |
At Akaka Falls
it seems the mountain has formed a semicircle to display the falls
at its best as it plunges 442 feet. Your family will be surrounded
by heliconia, ginger, fern, and bamboo groves as you cross gurgling
streams on footbridges.
Hawaii Volcanoes
National Park is the number one visitor attraction in the State.
At the park's heart is Kilauea Caldera, encircled by the 11-mile
Crater Rim Drive. The rim drive passes steam vents, sulfur springs,
and fault lines. An ethereal walk is along Devastation Trail, across
a desolate black lava field. This is an area where falling pumice
from the 1959 eruption of Kilauea Iki stripped all the leaves from
the trees. Wherever your family stops to gaze, it's worth realizing
that you are standing on the thin, cooled skin atop the world's
most active volcano.

or surfing.
